Background to the Appointment

Elgin Executive Search have been exclusively retained to appoint a SVP in Funding & Treasury for a major international banking group. As a result of the significant growth of the banks proprietary asset portfolio, particularly their aircraft leasing and shipping businesses, they have decided to open a financing and treasury hub in Hong Kong in late 2016 to serve their increasing global liquidity needs.

The first senior hire for this new office will be a senior capital markets-facing funding executive who will be responsible for all aspects of liquidity origination for the group in Hong Kong. The role is pitched at Senior Vice President level and will report directly to the Global Head of Funding.

The ideal candidate will have worked in a similar role in the past, and ideally, have lived in the Hong Kong previously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Origination and negotiation of debt issuances, in-line with corporate guidelines and local regulations
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with commercial banks and financial institutions, particularly in the local funding community
  • Provide analytical reports in terms of financing trends, exchange rate, interest rate, cash flow management and funding costs
  • Responsible for exchange rate, interest rate risk prevention on derivatives transactions
  • Monitoring for daily liquidity and market risk movements

Core Requirements

  • At least 10-15 years of relevant front office treasury or DCM experience in a large financial institution
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of debt and equity capital markets, fixed income, currency, hedging, derivatives and treasury-related regulations and policies
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with significant attention to detail
  • Effective communicator with fluent English and Mandarin
  • Established network of contacts within the local Hong Kong financing market
